The heart of AV

From exceptional leaders to inspiring front-line workers, at every level Anglicare Victoria’s (AV’s) people are its greatest asset.

United in the mission to create better tomorrows for families, children and young people, our diverse and skilled staff work behind-the-scenes to serve their communities and deliver transformative care across the state.

A culture of care

Carol Abery, Manager Community Services (Southern Region).

“I’m a bit of a champion for AV,” says Carol. “I think it’s a great place to work.”

Carol first came to know AV when she was on a student placement in 1999 – when AV was just two years old.

After completing her studies, Carol joined AV as a Practitioner in Family Services at AV Gippsland. In over 20 years with the organisation Carol has moved between a number of different services, growing her experience and serving a range of people and communities across Victoria. “I’m a person who needs to grow and develop, and the size and diversity of AV has allowed me to do that,” says Carol.

Sue Sealey, Deputy CEO

“We’ve got such inspirational staff and I feel really fortunate to be part of the team at AV,” says Sue. “I love that AV has always been a thinking and learning organisation focused on clients – in particular, children and families. We’re always wanting to innovate and provide services that are informed by best practice. And, in many ways it’s a unique organisation. Sometimes I say to Paul McDonald, who’s CEO, ‘I feel like we’ve got a reverse management matrix in this organisation, and you and I are at the bottom’ – but that’s OK because we get a lot back from our staff and they push us to do more for our clients.

Jasbir Suropada, Senior Practitioner for AV’s ParentZone program

Jasbir came to Australia from Singapore in 2010 and joined AV in 2012. Absolutely passionate about gender equality, strengthening families and preventing family violence, Jasbir began working with AV’s ParentZone program. Before long, he came to believe in the program so much he went from house to house in his community to promote it.

This dedication helped ParentZone expand in his community – and beyond – changing many lives.

Alongside his work at AV, Jasbir has become a key figure in his community, and currently holds several prominent roles including Chair of the Sikh Interfaith Council of Victoria. In 2021 Jasbir received an Australia Day Award for his outstanding contributions. “I have been supported by a fantastic team and community to get to where I am today,” he says.
